If you enjoy singing then why not come and visit us during our weekly rehearsal? But beware...... you too may be bitten by the barbershop bug! We are 16-strong at the moment and are actively looking for new members. So if you want to sing and have lots of fun, we would love to hear from you. We meet in Blythe Bridge to the south east of the City of Stoke on Trent. Regular practices take place on Friday afternoons when we meet at the Methodist Hall at the rear of the Chapel in Uttoxeter Road, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Our Conductor and Musical Director is Sarah Williams - that's Sarah in the middle of the ladies with no hat - who is well known in the district for her singing as part of the trio of Lady Singers called the "Bel Canto" When you come, you'll do a short voice test to see which of the parts suits you best. Then you can listen and join in alongside others who are singing that part, and see how you like it. It really is exciting to be part of a chorus making music and it's definitely worth giving it a try if you're the slightest bit tempted! Barbershop Music is a rather unique harmonized music that really does originate from the American barber shops, where it was found that the development of this distinct unaccompanied musical style, encouraged more customers to attend the particular emporium Whatever your singing talents, you'll always find a warm welcome from the "Not Strictly Barbershop Choir". This is a very friendly group of people. We have become recognised as an exciting and innovative if unusual barbershop chorus performing songs in the barbershop style with verve and energy. There is NO musical test, but if you enjoy singing, and you can sing in pitch and you can hold a tune, then we'll teach you the rest! . There
is plenty
of friendly support for newcomers and a great atmosphere engendered by Sarah's
enthusiasm. The
chorus likes to support local charities and often makes contributions to them by
singing at their fund raising events.
